Last week, student-led protests in Bangladesh against government job quotas turned violent, resulting in at least 147 fatalities. The clashes led to a significant response from the Bangladeshi government, including an internet shutdown, curfew imposition, and army deployment. In light of these events, Bangladesh's top court decided to scrap most of the contested quotas.

The chartered flight, which included 80 students, was a much-anticipated arrival. Malaysia's Home Minister, Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, expressed gratitude for the safe return of the citizens. "We are grateful for the safe return of our Malaysian citizens," he said during a press conference.

Some Malaysians, however, opted to remain in Bangladesh due to their commitments as final-year students or workers.

Cassandra David, a Malaysian student at Dhaka Medical College, praised the government's efforts: "Our wellbeing was very much taken care of."

This safe return comes as a relief and a testament to the government's prompt actions in ensuring the safety of its citizens abroad.
