Safety Guidelines For Safety Of Media Personnel Launched

KUALA LUMPUR, March 20 (Bernama) -- All media employers need to provide a safe work procedure for their personnel by referring to the "Safe Work Practices For Media Professionals" guide to avoid mishaps.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri S. Subramaniam said the guide explained steps that should be taken by the media personnel and helping the management in identifying the risks at work.

"We do not want the case such as in Somalia, where a cameraman was killed when covering a humanitarian mission, repeating itself. "The incident really gave an impact, as such through the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) the guideline is developed to help media personnel deliver the latest news," he said when launching the guideline here, Monday.

According to Subramaniam the guideline was the result of cooperation involving employers, workers and government, namely DOSH, National Union of Journalists Malaysia, Malaysian Press Institute dan Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama).

"The sources of reference for the guideline is based inside and outside the country such as Hazard Identification, Risk Analysis, Risk Control or HIRARC, BBC Safety and Business Continuity, International News Safety Institute (INSI), International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) dan Universal Declaration of Human Rights," he added.
