KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 22 (Bernama) -- The Pahang- Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project has won the Excellence Awards for the Occupational Safety and Health National Level 2011.
The awards were under Workplace Category for Construction Sector by National Council Of Occupational Health & Safety (NCOSH) under the Ministry of Human Resources.
In a statement Thursday, UEM Group Bhd said the interstate water tunnel project was led by a fully-integrated joint venture, Shimizu Corp-Nishimatsu Construction-UEM Builders-IJM Construction Joint Venture (SNUI JV).
UEM Builders has a 20 per cent take in SNUI JV, while Shimizu and Nishimatsu have 30 per cent each and IJM Construction, 20 per cent.
SNUI JV project manager, Takashi Kawata, said it has implemented high standards of health, safety and environmental measures throughout the project.
"Our safety motto, 'Safety is our joint responsibility', is a reflection of the JV's commitment to practise good health, safety and environmental standards.
"To date we have achieved five million man hours without fatality and the progress of works is 45 per cent," he said.
The project was initiated by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water and awarded to the JV parties on May 2009.
It will channel raw water from Pahang to Selangor to meet higher water demands due to rapid development growth in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.
