Strive to improve, graduates told advised

MIRI: Fajar International College (FIC) chief executive officer Dr Peter Tham advised graduates against complacency but to keep striving to advance and prosper in their career.

“Graduation is just the beginning of your success in education so you shouldn’t stop but move ahead to a degree or even PhD if possible,” he urged in his welcoming speech at the 4th FIC Graduation 2011 at Imperial Hotel here yesterday.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau officiated at the opening ceremony where he presented certificates and scrolls to 164 graduates.

Five of them received the BSc (Hon) in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment from University of Greenwich, UK; three for Accounting; six for Business Studies; and the rest for the Occupational Safety and Health.

“This is indeed a happy and thankful time for all of us to be able to share the joy of our graduates who, after spending two-and-a-half years with us, finally walk out today with their piece of important paper.

“As the chief executive officer of this college, I declare that I am extremely proud of all of you and take pride in sharing your moment of glory and success,” Tham acknowledged.

He was confident the graduates could step into either the employment market, or further their studies.

He said their time spent at the college would have prepared them to take the next bold step in their lives.

Set up 11 years ago from humble beginnings, FIC is now an International College, one of the few in Sarawak approved for international studies by the Education Ministry.

“The recognition from the relevant government authorities of our academic standard has proven our role as a high quality education provider in this region,” Tham said.

Fajar International College would continue to grow as a preferred institution of higher education for many years to come. The college has this year added a brand new building, equipped with modern facilities, to its campus at Pujut-Lutong Road.
